Seasonal Activites

What is the best time of year to visit? The answer is anytime! Each season offers it's own unique experiences.

SUMMER

This is when the days are long and warm and evenings are cool and pleasant. This is a great time for hiking, biking, boating and fishing. As all roads are open in Yelowstone for driving, you can explore its backroads and small towns' cafes, museums and festivals.

FALL

The area is awash with color; the tamaracks are bright yellow, the aspen and cottonwood trees are drenched in oranges and gold. The crowds have thinned and the brown trout are biting. The days get cooler and the hot springs inviting.

WINTER

As snows settle on the countryside it is magically transformed and winter adventures start. Many places are available for skiing in the area, both downhill and nordic. Or you can explore the snowy world by snowmobile, snowshoe, dogsled, or Yellowstone's snowcoach tours. The north entrance to Yellowstone is the only one open during winter.

SPRING

Spring typically arrives late to the area but when it does it comes with a multitude of wildflowers and wildlife. Calves are born in late May-June. Grab your binoculars and get out into the countryside along uncrowded roads. A wonderful time to hike, bike or kayak. But be aware that it has been known to snow in the Spring.
